Summary

World War One memorial in the form of a Blomfield Cross of Sacrifice. This stone memorial was erected by the parishoners of East Carleton in memory of those who served and died in World War One. It was scupted by Mssrs G Maile and son and unveiled on 22 August 1920. The memorial was Listed grade II in November 2017.

Location: Junction of Intwood Lane and Catbridge Lane, East Carleton.
Type: Blomfield Cross of Sacrifice
Description: The war memorial is in the form of a Blomfield Cross of Sacrifice, which was originally designed by Sir Reginald Bloomfield for the Imperial War Graves Commission in 1918. It has been described as "an octagonal stone Latin cross with an inverted sword carved in relief to the face. The shaft has a moulded foot and rises from a two-tiered octagonal plinth on a single-stepped base" (S1). There is an inscription on the front face of the plinth.
Proposed: The memorial was first proposed in 1919 and the money was raised via public subscription.
