Full Description
World War One memorial
Location: c30m north-west of St Martin’s Church, Mill Cottages, Glandford
Type: Latin Cross
Description: The memorial is in the form of a Latin cross made of granite. The cross has a depiction of the crucifixion with the figure of Christ carved in the round making the sign of blessing. The cross is placed on top of a four-step square base. The inscription is placed on the second step of the base. No names are listed on the inscription; Glandford was thought to be a ‘Thankful Village’ where all enlisted soldiers returned following the war, however, one local soldier has been identified to have died during WW1.
At some point, the original cross was blown over and damaged. A replica cross was erected and the surviving original parts moved to the ruined Church of St Margaret.
