St Margaret's National School was erected in 1849 on the site of a former tar works (NHER 17318) at a cost of around £1400. It was designed to accommodate 300 boys and 200 girls.
Information from (S1).
An inscribed stone plaque above the door reads 'ST MARGARET'S NATIONAL SCHOOLS ERECTED 1849'.
The building ceased to be a school in the later 20th or early 21st century.
