Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding Celtic wheel-head cross. In situ by 1928 this memorial was erected to commemorate fifteen servicemen from Litcham and Kempstone who died in World War One, and latterly five casualties from World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in November 2017.

Location: All Saints Churchyard, Church Street, Litcham.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding Celtic wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate fifteen servicemen from Litcham and Kempstone who died in World War One, and latterly five casualties from World War Two. It is described as “on a tapering shaft with moulded foot. The cross-head is carved with an interlaced Celtic knot work design. The shaft rises from a four-sided, tapering plinth surmounting a single-stepped base on a concrete foundation” (S1). There are inscriptions and names on the plinth in incised lettering. The former World War One dedication and fifteen names (Inscription A) is on the west face. The latter World War Two dedication and five names (Inscription B) is on the south face.

Inscription B: ALSO TO THE MEMORY OF/ (5 NAMES)/ WHO FELL IN WORLD WAR 1939 – 1945.
