Summary

World War One memorial constructed from grey granite, in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected in 1920 to commemorate thirteen local servicemen who died in World War One. The memorial was Listed Grade II in November 2017.

Location: St Gervase and St Protase Churchyard, Hospital Road, Little Plumstead.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from grey granite, in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate thirteen local servicemen who died in World War One. It has been described “with an inverted Sword of Sacrifice carved in relief to the cross-head and shaft. The sword has a trefoil design to the pommel and the cross-guard. The shaft rises from a tapering, four-sided plinth surmounting a single-stepped base” (S1). There is an inscription and names on the plinth, in leaded lettering.
