World War One Memorial with World War Two Additions
Location: St Michael's Churchyard, St Michael's Green, Great Moulton.

Description:
The memorial is constructed from Portland stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross pattée. It is used to commemorate eight members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly three local servicemen who died in World War Two. The cross is described with the south face having “detailed carvings of Rose, Iris, Grape and Passion of Christ Flower on each arm of the cross, and a Tudor rose motif at the centre. The wheel of the cross also includes small floral carvings” (S1). It surmounts a four-sided shaft described as having a moulded foot and a wreath carved in relief on the upper half of the south face. “The shaft rises from a tapering, four-sided plinth with moulded cap. The whole stands on a two-stepped base; the lower step is of a different stone to the rest of the memorial” (S1). There are inscriptions and names in incised lettering, painted black. The former World War One dedication (Inscription A) is to the south face of the shaft, with eight names listed below on the south face of plinth. The latter World War Two dedication and three names (Inscription B) are on the west face of the plinth.
Proposed: Funds were raised by public subscription amounting to £40, although this might not be the total cost of the memorial.
