Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two addition, constructed from grey granite in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, obelisk. This memorial was unveiled on 01 February 1920 and is used to commemorate twenty-two members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly a single casualty from World War Two. In 2000 a plaque was added. The memorial was Listed Grade II in April 2018.

Location: Approximately 80m west of All Saints' Church, All Saints' Churchyard extension, Tuns Road, Necton.
Type: Obelisk
Description:
The memorial is constructed from grey granite, in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, obelisk. It is used to commemorate twenty-two members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly a single casualty from World War Two. The memorial is described as sited “on a plinth, square on plan, with single step below” (S1). There are inscriptions in raised leaded lettering, painted black (S4). The former World War One dedication is to the front face of the obelisk (Inscription A). This inscription continues to the plinth below along with twenty-two names, a contiguous World War Two date, and associated single name (Inscription B).

2000. Addition.
In 2000, a commemorative plaque was added to the base of the memorial constructed of polished granite. The plaque holds the inscription NECTON/ ROYAL BRITISH LEGION/ 2000/ WE WILL REMEMBER/ THEM. Pursuant to s1 (5A) of the Planning (Listed Buildings and Conservation Areas) Act 1990, this plaque is not of special architectural or historic interest.
