Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from granite, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected to commemorate eleven members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly six men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in April 2018.

Location: Approximately 40m east of All Saints' Church, The churchyard, Main Road, Narborough.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from granite, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate eleven members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly six men who died in World War Two. It is described as having “a reversed sword carved in low relief on the front face. The cross rises from a tapering plinth with two-stepped base, and is enclosed by a low granite kerb in-filled with chippings” (S1). There are inscriptions applied metal lettering. The former World War One dedication (Inscription A) starts on the front face of the foot of the cross shaft and continues, following eleven names (Inscription B), on to the plinth below. The latter World War Two dedication and six names (Inscription C) is to the rear face of the plinth.
