Summary

World War One memorial constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding plain Latin cross. This memorial was erected to commemorate eleven local servicemen who died in World War One. The memorial was Listed Grade II in April 2018.

Location: Approximately 7m to the south of the church tower, St Mary and St Margaret's Church, Church Road, Norton Subcourse.
Type: Latin Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding plain Latin cross. It is used to commemorate eleven local servicemen who died in World War One. It is described as “rising from a simple collar at the top of a tall shaft, square on plan. The cross shaft stands on a tapering pedestal, which stands on a three-stepped octagonal base” (S1). There are inscriptions and names, in incised lettering. The dedication starts (Inscription A) on the font face of the plinth, with the eleven names listed on the two faces to either side. The front face of the uppermost step of the base bears the remaining dedication text (Inscription B).
