Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from grey granite in the form of a freestanding, dressed, wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected to commemorate thirty-five local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly seventeen men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in May 2018.

Location: 2, Station Road, Ormesby St Margaret, Great Yarmouth.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from grey granite, in the form of a freestanding, dressed, wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate thirty-five local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly seventeen men who died in World War Two. It is sited on a pedestal and is described as having “a moulded cap and two-stage foot,” “chamfered corners, and stands on an octagonal base” (S1). An inscription and the names are applied in metal lettering on the pedestal. This is a single dedicatory inscription to the front face, with thirty-five names associated with World War One on the remaining faces. The seventeen World War Two “casualty names are recorded on the chamfered faces of the upper stage of the pedestal foot” (S1).
