Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from Clipsham stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. This memorial was unveiled 23 May 1920 to commemorate forty local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly twelve men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in June 2018.

Location: Churchyard of the Church of St Martin, Cromer Road, Overstrand.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from Clipsham stone, the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate forty local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly twelve men who died in World War Two. It is described as 5m tall, “pierced and cusped, atop a slender octagonal shaft with moulded collar and foot, surmounting a pentagonal plinth and three-stepped base” (S1). There is an inscription carved in relief.
