Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from Portland stone in the form of a freestanding needle. This memorial was proposed in 1919 by the Sedgeford War Memorial Committee and erected to commemorate twenty-three local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly six men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in June 2018.

Location: Cole Green, Sedgeford, King's Lynn.

Description:
The memorial is constructed from Portland stone, in the form of a tall freestanding needle. It is used to commemorate twenty-three local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly six men who died in World War Two. It is described as “square on plan, standing on a deep, wide, two-stage base, square on plan” (S1). There are inscriptions on the base in incised lettering. The former World War One dedication (Inscription A) is to the west face of the lower stage of the base, with twenty-three associated names, along with rank and regiment, corps, or service, listed on the upper stage of the base. The dedication continues (Inscription B and C) to the other faces of the lower stage of the base. The latter World War Two dedication and six associated names (Inscription B) is to the fourth face.
