Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected around 1920 to commemorate eleven local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. As the inscription is in poor condition, in 1981 a metal plaque was added to the memorial denoting a plaque placed in the Holy Trinity Church (NHER 8831). The memorial was Listed Grade II in March 2018.

Location: Holy Trinity Churchyard, The Street, Woodrising, Scoulton.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate eleven local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. It is described as on a simple shaft “surmounting a tapering four-sided plinth with moulded cap, on a single-tiered base” (S1). There are inscriptions and names (Inscription A) in poor condition on the plinth in incised lettering. A metal plaque, added 1981, is to the lower shaft with an inscription (B) in incised lettering. This latter inscription denotes a plaque being placed in Holy Trinity Church (NHER 8831).
