Full Description
April 2020. National Mapping Programme (NMP) Data Clean-Up.
This site was mapped from aerial photographs as part of the Norfolk Coastal Zone NMP project, but not recorded. This record was written more than 10 years later, without access to the original sources, and therefore the information that can be included is limited, and the interpretation is more tentative than it might be otherwise.
A probably post-medieval, slot-shaped, pond or pool was identified on aerial photographs. The form of the site and the specific photographs used to map it are not known, but it is visible as an earthwork on mid 1940s aerial photographs viewable online (S1). It appears to correspond to a probable pond or pool depicted on the 1st edition Ordnance Survey 6 inch map (S2). Whether the pool was man-made and whether it served a specific function is not known. On more recent imagery (S3), it appears to have been levelled.
S. Tremlett (Norfolk County Council, Historic Environment Service), 29 April 2020.
