Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from grey granite in the form of a freestanding, dressed, wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected to commemorate ten members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in July 2018.

Location: Approximately 20m west of the Village Hall, Church Street, Stiffkey.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed grey granite, in the form of a freestanding, dressed, wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate ten members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. It is described as “standing on a tapering plinth, with a single-stepped base on a concrete foundation” (S1). There are inscriptions in metal lettering. The former World War One dedication is to the front face of the plinth, with ten associated names (Inscription A). The latter World War Two dates are to the front face of the base, along with four associated names (Inscription B).
