Full Description
September 2017. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site (Area 2).
No anomalies of clear archaeological origin were identified.
A distinct curvilinear anomaly was detected towards the centre of the field that was potentially associated with a series of perpendicular abutting linear anomalies. Although the arrangement of these anomalies is suggestive of the remains of a field system it is argued that they are most likely agricultural in origin or related to the former railway line abutting the field to the north-east. The principal anomaly appears to be visible on Google Earth satellite imagery but, potentially notably, no corresponding cropmark features were identified when the National Mapping Programme examined aerial photographs of this area in 2004.
A cluster of strong, bipolar responses towards the northern end of the field correspond with the position of a former sand pit marked on historic maps.
See report (S1) for further details.

October 2017. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of proposed development site.
This study suggested that the site may have an enhanced potential for Bronze Age and medieval features. An examination of historic maps suggests that the majority of the site remained as agricultural land throughout the post-medieval and modern periods. No features of note were identified during a site visit.
See report (S2) for further details.
