Full Description
May-June 2009. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development area (Fields 4 and 14-16).
No potentially archaeologically-significant anomalies were identified in these four fields.
An east-to-west aligned line of magnetic dipoles crossing the middle of the larger, western field almost certainly marks the line of a post-medieval field boundary. This is a continuation of a feature observed in the field to the west (NHER 64518). A linear anomaly running parallel to the southern boundary of this field is interpreted as the modern plough headland.
Although a number of discrete positive anomalies were also identified these are all though to be the result of modern structures or debris.
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with the possible ring-ditch visible as a cropmark on aerial photographs at TG 1755 0575. A discrete positive anomaly that appears at this location was the result of a steel trough.
