Summary

A geophysical survey undertaken in 2009 revealed no evidence for archaeologically-significant remains. The only response of note was a linear band of anomalies that marks the line of a post-medieval field boundary. It should though be noted that the geology of this area is known to create conditions that are not particularly conducive to this kind of survey.

Map

May-June 2009. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development area (Field 8).
No potentially archaeologically-significant anomalies were identified in this field.
The only response of interest was a north-to-south aligned line of magnetic dipoles crossing the central part of the field. This clearly corresponds with a former post-medieval field boundary shown on the 1846 Hethersett Tithe map (S1).
Although a number of discrete positive anomalies were also identified these are all though to be the result of modern structures or debris.
See report (S2) for further details.
