Full Description
April-May 2020. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The seven trenches excavated revealed no archaeologically significant deposits.
Two large pits exposed close to the extant buildings were obviously of recent date as they contained a variety of modern debris including metal objects, ceramic building material, glass and plastic. A trench to the south of the buildings also revealed evidence for extensive recent distance.
Much of the site was though clearly largely unaffected by recent activity, with relatively undisturbed subsoil deposits present in the majority of the trenches. It was though noted that a number of plough scars were visible at the interface between this deposit and the natural sands in the easternmost trench.
No finds were recovered.
