Full Description
February-March 2019. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site (Areas 3 and 5).
This survey identified numerous linear anomalies - the majority of which occurred in evenly spaced, parallel groups and therefore almost certainly represent modern drainage features. The small number of exceptions include two east-to-west aligned anomalies likely to represent former field boundaries. One of these clearly corresponds with a boundary shown on the Wymondham tithe map of 1839 (S1). The second appears to continue the line of an extant boundary but no boundary is shown at this location on any of the maps consulted, suggesting it had already been removed by the mid 19th century.
Two short linear anomalies at the northern end of the field are differently aligned to both the post-medieval boundaries and the drainage features and so potentially represent older ditches. The nature of these weak responses is however uncertain.
The only other response of note is a single discrete anomaly of undetermined origin that could represent a pit-type feature.
See report (S2) for further details.
