Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from grey granite in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected in 1920 to commemorate nine local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly three men who died in World War Two. The memorial underwent conservation works in 2010 and 2016, then was Listed Grade II in June 2018.

Location: All Saints' Churchyard, Church Road, Skeyton.
Type: Wheel-head Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from grey granite, in the form of a freestanding, rough-hewn, wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate nine local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly three men who died in World War Two. It is described “with Sword of Sacrifice in relief on the face”, situated on a plinth with a single-stepped base below. “Beneath this, there is a deep concrete foundation block that sets the memorial into the bank of the churchyard” (S1). There are inscriptions in leaded lettering. The former World War One dedication is to the plinth along with nine associated names (Inscription A). The latter World War Two dedication is to the base below the plinth, along with three associated names (Inscription B).
