Full Description
April 2014. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site.
The only potentially archaeologically-significant response was an east-to-west aligned positive linear anomaly identified at the southern end of the site, This was possibly a cut feature, although an agricultural origin is also possible.
There was no evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with the previously mapped linear cropmarks thought to represent features associated with a former field boundary and a former road (NHERs 26947 and 26946 respectively).
A north-east to south-west aligned high amplitude bipolar linear anomaly crossing the northern half of the site is likely to represent an underground service.
Areas of widespread magnetic variation are likely to represent periglacial geological features.
A number of discrete magnetic ‘spikes’ are likely to have been caused by modern ferrous debris.
Information from report uploaded to OASIS. HER copy awaited.

November 2015. Desk-based Assessment.
Assessment of proposed development site (Site F2.2).
The site is depicted on two 17th-century maps held by the Norfolk Record Office, one of 1615 (S1) and another of 1689 (S2). Both show it to lie partly within two headlands in an area of north-to-south aligned strip fields. The area to the north was 'Over chappell gate' and the area to the south 'Hungry headland'. The boundary between the two may well correspond with similarly-aligned cropmarks believed to represent a bank and ditch associated with a former field boundary (NHER 26947). A north-east to south-west aligned former road that is also associated with mapped cropmarks (NHER 26946) appears on both maps. This route way is labelled 'White Crosse' on (S1). The strip fields had all disappeared by the 19th century and the north-east to south-west aligned road had also been removed by this time.
Based on the available evidence from its environs and the negative results of the geophysical survey it was concluded that this site has a moderate potential to contain earlier prehistoric remains but little potential for later features.
Nothing of interest was noted during a brief site visit.
See report (S3) for further details.

August 2017. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The thirteen trenches excavated revealed no archaeologically-significant remains.
A single linear feature was recorded, which was found to contain modern ceramic building material and the near complete skeleton of a sheep or goat.
There was therefore again no trace of surviving remains associated with the cropmarks mapped at this location (NHERs 26947 and 26946).
See report (S4) for further details.
An archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2018.356).
