Summary

Trial trenches excavated at this site in 2012 revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. A watching brief maintained during subsequent topsoil stripping between 2015 and 2017 did though record a post-medieval ditch and several undated features.

March 2012. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed quarry conveyor route (Trench 4-6).
No archaeologically-significant features or deposits were identified.
In the easternmost two trenches the natural deposits were overlain by a dark, peaty deposit that had presumably formed in wet conditions.
No finds were recovered.

November 2015-November 2017. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of topsoil stripping along route of quarry haul road.
A number of features were recorded, including two roughly north-to-south aligned ditches, a pit and a probable natural feature. The easternmost of the ditches produced several late post-medieval pottery sherds but the other remains were all undated.
