Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from stone in the form of a freestanding plain Latin cross. This memorial was supplied by Holman on Lynn and erected by July 1920. It is used to commemorate eight local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly two servicemen who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in February 2018.

Location: The churchyard, St Mary's Church, Hillington.
Type: Latin Cross
Description:
The memorial is constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding plain Latin cross, formerly an obelisk. It is used to commemorate eight local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly two servicemen who died in World War Two. It is described as “on a tapering plinth with single-stepped base” (S1). There is an inscription to the west face of the plinth in incised lettering along with the associated names, including rank and year of death. The memorial was relocated from elsewhere in the churchyard and is now situated, raised to wall hight (S5, photographs), at the churchyard gate following replacement of the obelisk with the cross, reusing the plinth and base.
