Map

April 2014. Watching Brief.
Examination of six discrete groups of foundation trenches excavated for new residential dwellings.
A single large feature of uncertain nature was exposed at the northern end of the site that was possibly either a large quarry pit or a substantial north-west to south-east aligned ditch. No finds were recovered, although it was noted that its uppermost fill contained charcoal and occasional modern ceramic building material fragments.
There was evidence for considerable modern disturbance in the central and northernmost parts of the site, much of which was associated with houses that had previously stood at this location.
It should be noted that in several other parts of the site the excavated trenches did not reach the base of a thick subsoil deposit present.
See report (S1) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.230).
