Location: Outside All Saint's Churchyard, Church Hill, Beighton.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding Celtic wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate eight members who died in World War One, and latterly a single local casualty from World War Two. The cross is described with “knot work designs carved in relief to the north-west face of the cross-head and wheel. It has a square shaft with moulded foot”. This rises from a plinth described as a four-sided and chamfered, with a “stone plaque… gabled with a ball finial” on the north-west face. The base is described as three-stepped with the upper-step “square with chamfered corners which have semi-circular projections from the chamfered face, while the remaining two steps are octagonal. The whole stands on a square concrete foundation” (S1). There are inscriptions in incised, painted black lettering. The dedication starts to the north-west face of the moulded foot (Inscription A). The principle World War One inscription is to the stone plaque along with eight associated names including service (Inscription B). The latter World War Two dedication is to the south-west face of the plinth, along with single associated name including service (Inscription C).
