Map

September 2015. Field Observation.
Examination of site following excavation of foundation trenches for rear extension to Abbey Farm. It had originally been intended that a watching brief would be maintained during these groundworks but unfortunately they took place without archaeological supervision. A small test pit was excavated in order to record a deposit profile and the spoil from the trenches was searched for finds.
The only finds of note recovered were six sherds of medieval to post-medieval pottery, suggesting it was unlikely these works had disturbed significant remains. Various finds of 19th- to mid 20th-century date were also noted, including brick and tile fragments and pieces of vessel glass. The spoil also contained moderate number of cattle, pig and sheep bones and a few oyster shells. Only the pottery was retained.
Information from report uploaded to OASIS. HER copy awaited.
