Description:
The memorial is constructed from limestone, in the form of a freestanding Latin cross approximately 4m tall. It is used to commemorate fifteen local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly two men who died in World War Two. The cross is described as “surmounting an octagonal shaft with moulded table/collar at the top, and moulded base section, atop a four-sided plinth with moulded upper edges and corners, on a two-stepped, stone base. The whole is set into a gap in the churchyard wall, and separated from passers-by by a semi-circular railing” (S1). Brass plaques, probably installed in the 1990s, replace the original inscriptions incised into the stone of the plinth. The World War One and Two dedications are combined on the plaque to the front face, along with three names associated with World War Two (Inscription A). The fifteen names associated with World War One are on the plaques to the side faces.
