Full Description
August 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of proposed development site (Area 2).
This survey of the southern half of the field identified a small number of linear and discrete responses that potentially represent archaeologically-significant remains. A series of additional, parallel, north-north-west to south-south-east aligned linear anomalies were thought to be traces of former ridge and furrow cultivation, although these could also be the result of much more recent agricultural practices.
There was no evidence for sub-surface remains associated with a north-west to south-east aligned bank and ditch feature visible as cropmarks in the north-east corner of the site (on the edge of an extensive group of cropmarks recorded as NHER 26634).
Scattered discrete ferrous anomalies are likely to have been caused by modern debris in the topsoil.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
