Summary

Originally recorded as a two-storey late 18th century building with colour-washed brick walls and grey pantile roof. It has though been suggested that this section of the Red Lion Street frontage covers a timber frame of early 17th-century date.

1 Burgh Road (NHER 37636), 2 and 4 Red Lion Street and 6 Red Lion Street (NHER 65093) are basically one building. The Red Lion Street frontage covers a timber frame of the early 17th century at the latest, but this was only seen where 1 Burgh Road, otherwise an 18th century house, has intruded into the older curtilage. Odd cellar.
See (S2) in file for NHER 37363.
E. Rose (NLA), 13 January 2003. Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 16 June 2021.

Further documentation makes it clear that most, or all, of these buildings were remodelled to form part of the Bridewell (NHER 12218).
