Map

July 2017. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The four trenches excavated revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. The topsoil layers were found to seal a thick deposit of undifferentiated alluvial silt. This overlay mid grey silty clays of possible marine origin. In one trench the clay abutted a band of fine silt that potentially represented the remains of a roddon.
The one possible feature observed during the removal of the silt layer was deemed to be a probable tree-throw hollow. This irregular hollow had an organic fill within which a discontinuous layer of burnt material was observed.
No finds were recovered.
