Description:
The memorial is constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding quadrate cross. It is used to commemorate thirty members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly fifteen local men, and one woman who died in World War Two. The whole is further described as enclosed by a “spiked chain carried by eight urn-shaped ornamental metal posts, each post decorated with wreaths cast in low relief to each side”, and a square kerb (S1). There is an inscription for the former World War One dedication in incised lettering (Inscription A; S4), displayed to the front face of the pylon beneath a cast bronze wreath. With thirty associated names including rank to the remaining sides. The latter World War Two dedication is to a cast metal plaque on the east face, along with sixteen associated names including rank and service (Inscription C; S4).
