Full Description
June 2017. Aerial Imagery Interpretation.
Assessment of aerial imagery along proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
Cropmarks likely to represent elements of field system (Site 34).
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
October 2017-March 2018. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
This survey identified evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with two of the cropmark in this group - a roughly north-to-south aligned feature at TG 1396 2504 (shown to be the western side of a rectilinear enclosure) and a roughly east-to-west aligned feature at TG 1382 2498.
Information from draft report. See NHER 65928 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
October 2020-June 2021. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of onshore cable for Norfolk Vanguard and Boreas Offshore Wind Farms.
This work revealed evidence for surviving sub-surface remains associated with several cropmarks in this group, including the roughly north-to-south aligned feature at TG 1396 2504 and two more fragmentary linear cropmark recorded in the vicinity of TG 1374 2492 (which had not been detected by the geophysical survey). One of the latter produced two Roman pottery sherds. There was no evidence for surviving remains associated with the roughly east-to-west aligned feature at TG 1382 2498.
Information from draft report. See NHER 65928 for further details.
P. Watkins (HES), 30 September 2024.
October 2021. Aylsham and Brampton Aerial Investigation and Mapping (AIM) Project.
Linear ditches, probably representing multi-phase boundaries and a possible trackway are visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1). The features most likely relate to former boundaries, probable field boundaries and a possible trackway. Some elements of the site (including the possible trackway) could date from the Iron Age - Roman period, while others may be of a medieval to post medieval date. Geological cropmarks are visible across the area and its possible that some of the features may be natural in origin.
J. Powell (Norfolk Historic Environment Service), 27 October 2021.
