Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from Carrara marble in the form of a freestanding Latin cross. This memorial was erected by R.F. Perfitt of Diss. It was unveiled in 1920 to commemorate twenty-three local men who died in World War One, and latterly three local men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in February 2018.

Location:
Church of All Saints, Church Road, Tibenham.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from Carrara marble, in the form of a freestanding Latin cross. It is used to commemorate twenty-three local men who died in World War One, and latterly three local men who died in World War Two. The cross is described with a plinth and base also constructed from Carrara marble “bearing a small metal cross on its front (west) elevation, and standing on a Portland stone platform” (S1). There are inscriptions on the memorial in leaded lettering (S4). The former World War One dedication is to the eight sides of the plinth (Inscription A), with the associated twenty-three names listed along with rank to the four western faces. The latter World War Two dates are to the front (west) face of the base (Inscription B), along with the associated three names listed by rank (S4).
Proposed: Date unknown.
Constructed/Sculpted By: Erected by R.F. Perfitt of Diss for around £100 (from public subscription).
Unveiled: 13 April 1920 (by H. Betts, and dedicated by Reverend Canon Pelham of Norwich), and in situ on the 1928 Ordnance Survey map (S7).
Inscription A: 1914-18// THESE WERE// OUR CHILDREN// WHO DIED// FOR OUR// HOMES THEY// WERE DEAR// IN OUR SIGHT.
Inscription B: 1939-45.
