World War One Memorial with Palestine Addition
Location: Churchyard of the Church of St Mary, The Street, Bridgham.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from a polished grey granite, in the form of a freestanding Latin cross. It is used to commemorate nineteen local servicemen who died in World War One, and latterly one man who died in Palestine in 1947. It is described as “upon a three-tiered plinth and simple square base” (S1).

1936. Restoration.
The memorial was renovated with inscriptions to the plinth in leaded, gilt lettering. On the west face is the World War One dedication to the top tier (Inscription A), which continues to the middle tier along with three of the associated names listed (Inscription B). With the remaining sixteen associated names listed to the north and south faces of the top and middle tiers. To the east face is the Palestine date and associated name (Inscription C; S4).
Unveiled: Rededicated 04 October 1936.
Inscription A: IN GRATEFUL/ MEMORY OF THE/ MEN WHO GAVE/ THEIR LIVES IN THE/ GREAT WAR 1914 – 1918/ (3 NAMES).
Inscription B: PALESTINE 1947/ (NAME).
