Summary

World War One memorial with World War Two addition, constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding Maltese cross. It was erected to commemorate six members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly one man who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in August 2018.

Location: The churchyard, Holy Trinity Church, Mill Road, Ingham.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding Maltese cross. It is used to commemorate six members of the local community who died in World War One, and latterly one man who died in World War Two. It is described as “on the collar of a tall cross shaft, octagonal in section, which stands on a small pedestal, square on plan” (S1). The pedestal is stood on a four-stepped octagonal base, with the bottom step constructed from concrete. There are inscriptions to the front of the pedestal in incised, painted lettering. The former World War One dedication is to the front face along with six associated names listed (Inscription A). The latter World War Two dates are to the foot, with associated name (Inscription B).

Inscription A: TO THE GLORY OF GOD/ THE GIVER OF VICTORY/ AND IN MEMORY OF THE MEN OF/ THE PARISH OF INGHAM/ WHO GAVE THEIR LIVES/ FOR THIS COUNTRY IN THE GREAT WAR/ 1914 – 1919/ (6 NAMES)/ ALSO IN HONOUR OF ALL THOSE WHO/ SERVED IN THE FORCES BY LAND & SEA.
Inscription B: 1939 – 1945/ (NAME).
