Full Description
October 2019. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The eleven trenches excavated revealed three undated linear features and a single post-hole, all of which lay at the western end of the site. The only finds recovered were two residual Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint blades which were both found in a shallow, elongated feature interpreted as a ditch terminus. A sample taken from the fill of this feature was found to contain carbonised seed and frequent charcoal, along with modern plant material and other material suggestive of bioturbation.
The two other linear features were two ditches, one aligned north-to-south and the other east-north-east to west-south-west.
It is possible that all of these remains were the result of relatively recent activity on the site.
See report (S1) for further details.
