Summary

World War One Memorial with World War Two additions, constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. This memorial was erected to commemorate eight local men who died in World War One, three of which were added later, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. The memorial was Listed Grade II in October 2019.

Location: Grove End, Junction of Seething Road and School Road, Seething.
Description:
The memorial is constructed from stone, in the form of a freestanding wheel-head cross. It is used to commemorate eight local men who died in World War One, three of which were added later, and latterly four men who died in World War Two. It is described as “on a collared, octagonal shaft, a rectangular plinth with cornice and moulded base and a deep rusticated square base” (S1). There are inscriptions to the pedestal in incised, black painted lettering (S4). The former World War One dedication starts to the south face along with the original five associated names listed (Inscription A) and ends with an addition to the north face with three associated names listed (Inscription B). The latter World War Two dedication is to the east face along with four associated names listed (Inscription B). All listed names include regimental details (S5).

Inscription B: 1914 -1918/ (NAMES)/ REMEMBER THEM.
Inscription C: IN MEMORY OF/ THE MUNDHAM & / SEETHING MEN/ WHO FELL IN THE/ SECOND WORLD/ WAR 1939 - 1945/ (NAMES)/ "WE WILL REMEMBER THEM".
