Summary

Memorial to George Beloe, who was killed in 1845 when the Yarmouth suspension bridge collapsed into the river. This limestone headstone has a relief representation of the bridge, which had been built in 1830. See NHER 50515 for further information on the New Road Bridge.

Listing Description excerpt:
"Headstone to George Beloe. 1845. Limestone. Rectangular with a shallow shaped head in which is a relief representation of the Yarmouth suspension bridge collapsing into the river. The bridge was by JJ Scoles, 1830. Inscription as follows: 'Sacred/ to the memory of/ George H.J. Beloe/ the beloved son of/ Louisa Beloe/ who was unfortunately drowned/ by the fall/ of the suspension bridge/ the 2nd of May 1845/ aged 9 years'."
