Summary

A watching brief in 1985 during excavation of a post medieval cellar of the building noted traces of an earlier flint and brick wall and three pieces of medieval pottery.

19 June 1985. Watching brief. Observation and cleaning of hole excavated by contractors in cellar of building. Hole approximately 1m deep, 1m wide, and 2m long. Orientated parallel to the street frontage. Situated in cellar behind cellar on the street frontage against interior face of west wall of building.
Revealed brick aperture in east wall.
Traces of ?wall footing running at right angles to this wall and perhaps returning towards the street some 2m from east wall.
East wall itself largely of flint construction but contains alterations in brick.
Deposits excavated all appeared to postdate the wall.
Three sherds of medieval Frechen stoneware, apparently within excavated levels.
