Full Description
May 2022. Broads Hidden Heritage: Aerial Perspectives.
A possible ring ditch with a large, centrally located, internal pit, perhaps the site of a Bronze Age round barrow, is visible as cropmarks on aerial photographs (S1). A slight earthwork mound may also be visible on visualised lidar data (S2). The archaeological significance of both the cropmarks and the possible earthworks is uncertain, as neither is particularly clear or well-defined, and they could be of natural origin. If they do represent an archaeological feature, their size suggests they represent a Bronze Age round barrow. The site is one of several ring ditches identified in this area, which together appear to form a dispersed round barrow cemetery (NHER 49686). As the lidar survey was flown relatively recently (2017-18), if any earthworks were present, it is possible that they still survive.
