Full Description
Two once adjoining 17th-century cottages to the east of this site (NHERs 41255 and 41256) are collectively labelled as 'Mill Houses' on the Ordnance Survey First Edition Six Inch map (S1). Although there is no sign of a mill building at this time, the former presence of such a structure may well account for the unusual sub-circular form of the plot of land to the west (the outline of which still survives in the modern boundaries). Nothing is shown at this location of Faden's map of 1797 (S2), suggesting that had a windmill indeed been present, it had already been demolished by the late 18th century.
