Full Description
December 2021. Listed, Grade II*.
A timber-framed conservatory adjoining Carrow House (NHER 26478) constructed by Boultonand Paul of Norwich in 1895.
The conservatory has a rectangular plan with nine bays divided by wooden mullions and a curved roof with a moulded cornice and a continuous lantern. The roof retains decorative iron cresting, with an iron finial and weathervane at each end. On the east side, the three central bays project forward, supporting an ogee gable head. Double-leafed doors are located at the short south end and on the long east side. The decoprative scheme includes the use of semi-circular windows with small leaded lights bordered by a band of red stained glass throughout and Art Nouveau stained glass in the pediment above the projecting bays on the long east side. The heating and ventillation systems appeared to be in situ when surveyed and several raised platforms likely represent the position of former peds and a possible pond. Interior features include a large oval mosaic surrounded by an iron grille and ornate ironwork on the spandrels between aisle posts.
