Full Description
December 2021. Listed, Grade II.
This building consists of a central steam engine house flanked on the left by a boiler house and on the right by a coal store. It was constructed at Trowse Sewage Pumping Station (NHER 26403) by the Norwich Corporation in 1909 in order to replace the adjacent 19th-century engine (NHER 65662). The single storey, red brick building has a rectangular plan and is designed in a Free Renaissance style with three matching gables to the front and rear.
A new electric pumping station was constructed at Trowse in 1960 to replace this one and at a similar time, a three-storey range was added on top of the boiler house. Documentary and photographic evidence indicate that all of the original machinery has been removed from this building.
