Map

March 2016. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of proposed development site.
The twenty-two trenches excavated revealed no archaeologically-significant remains.
Much of the northern half of the site had been significantly disturbed by a large quarry pit that was open during the latter half of the 20th century. This does not appear on 1946 aerial photographs but can be clearly seen on photographs taken in 1988. It appears to have been completed filled in at some time between then and 2000.
The only other feature recorded was a north-north-east to south-south-west aligned ditch in the southern field that contain a fragment of 19th- or early 20th-century bottle glass.
No other finds were recovered.
See report (S1) for further details.
