Summary

This gazebo in the grounds of Walpole House (NHER 65597) dates to the mid 18th century, suggesting it was erected not long after the house underwent a significant remodelling. It is square in plan with brick walls and a tiled, pyramidal roof. Inside it has field panelling and a fireplace overmantel painted with a seascape. Part of a complex of listed buildings all previously recorded under NHER 4656 (Town House).

February 1952. Listed, Grade II*.
Listing Description excerpt:
"Gazebo. Mid 18th century. Brick with tiled roof. Square Plan. Doorway with moulded doorcase, the door panelled and glazed and retained original glazing bars. Sash window with glazing bars to east face, small square oriel to south and internal stack to west. Pyramid roof.
Interior: with field panelling and fireplace overmantel painted with seascape."

December 1988. Building Survey.
South of Walpole House is a Garden House of mid-18th-century date, square, with a door, sash window, oriel window and internal stack. The roof is pyramid. There is stated to be internal panelling and a seascape painted over the fireplace. It is listed Grade II*and is mentioned in report on Walpole House produced by A. H. Grogan for the Royal Commission on the Historical Monuments of England in 1979 (see NHER 65597).
