Map

December 2013. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of two new dwellings and associated detached garages.
The initial stripping of an area to create a new site entrance revealed nothing of interest. The subsequent excavation of footing trenches within one of the two house plots also revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. In both areas a reasonably deep subsoil layer was present.
It had been intended that the excavation of footing trenches within a second house plot would also monitored, as well as those for two detached garages. Unfortunately the archaeological contractor was not notified of the commencement of these works and as a result they took place without archaeological supervision.
See report (S1) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.229).

April 2015. Watching Brief.
Monitoring of groundworks associated with construction of additional dwellings.
It had been intended that this work would monitor the excavation of foundation trenches within two separate house plots. Unfortunately these groundworks also took place without archaeological supervision, with the trenches already filled with concrete by the time the archaeological contractor arrived. The only work monitored was the excavation of a separate trench to the rear of the house plots. This revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. A small number of finds were recovered from the subsoil layer, including single sherds of late medieval/early post-medieval and post-medieval pottery, a post-medieval brick fragment and a prehistoric flint flake.
See report (S2) for further details.
The archive associated with this work has been deposited with Norwich Castle Museum (NWHCM : 2017.307).
