Full Description
May-June 2016. Watching Brief.
Maintained during groundworks associated with installation of new high voltage electrical cable.
Three discrete features were recorded. These included two probable pits at TG 1629 0956 and TG 1631 0956, both of which were potentially of some antiquity. A third feature at TG 1643 0952 appeared to be cut through the subsoil layer and was therefore probably more recent in date. This was thought to be most likely a natural feature.
No finds were recovered.
It should be noted that conditions were not particularly conducive to the identification of archaeological remains, with topsoil not fully removed from the working easement. All three of the features recorded were observed in the section of the narrow cable trench following its excavation.
Information from report uploaded to OASIS. HER copy awaited.
