Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2021/2022 revealed no potentially archaeologically-significant anomalies and limited trial trenching undertaken in 2022 had similarly negative results. Debris likely to have been associated with the military camp previously present at this location (NHER 11335) was recorded, but there was no evidence for surviving structural remains.

May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 17 October 2022.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Areas 101 and 104).
This survey of two adjacent areas identified no potentially archaeologically-significant anomalies.
A single weak linear anomaly is thought to represent a drainage feature.
It should though be noted that much of the area examined was covered by a spread of ferrous debris, which may have masked any other anomalies present.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 October 2022.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P2TT02; Trenches 93 and 94).
The two trenches excavated at this location revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. The overburden was shallow.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 17 October 2022.
