Summary

A geophysical survey of this site in 2021/2022 identified a small number of linear and discrete anomalies. These were recorded as being of undetermined origin, but could potentially represent archaeologically-significant remains. No sub-surface features were identified by subsequent trial trenching in 2022 but as it appears most of the geophysical anomalies were not investigated their nature remains uncertain.

May 2018. Desk-based Assessment.
Environmental Impact Assessment of the potential impacts of the proposed Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm on the historic environment. This study incorporated the results of an initial walkover survey and the first phases of geophysical survey.
See relevant chapter of Environmental Statement and associated appendices for further detail (S1).
P. Watkins (HES), 18 October 2022.

November 2021-March 2022. Geophysical Survey.
Magnetometer survey of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (Area 3).
Potentially archaeologically-significant responses identified by this survey included two strong discrete anomalies and several weaker, relatively short linear anomalies. All are recorded as being of undetermined origin. It should be noted that a similar discrete anomaly recorded in the field to the south was found to coincide with a pit-type feature.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 October 2022.

February-June 2022. Trial Trenching.
Evaluation of site on proposed route of Hornsea Project Three offshore wind farm onshore cable (P3TT01; Trenches 1000-1003).
The four trenches excavated at this location revealed no archaeologically-significant features or deposits. It appears that the trenches only coincided with one of the previously identified geophysical anomalies so the nature of these responses remains uncertain.
No finds were recovered.
Information from draft report. Final version awaited.
P. Watkins (HES), 18 October 2022.
